TUTORING PROCEDURE & INFORMATION

 

Mad about Maths offer extra tuition in the Southern Suburbs with branches in Bergvliet & Claremont.   We specialise in offering tuition in Mathematics Gr. 1 – 12, Accounting & Physical Science Gr 8 – 12.

 

Our main aim is to provide individual tuition to all students. We do not view our students as a group but each one as an individual with their own needs and our tutoring methods are adapted accordingly.

 

In order to assist our students to the best of our ability we start each student who enrols with an assessment.  This will assess the previous years’ work in order to determine where exactly we need to start working with the student and which sections need the most attention.  Taking the result of the assessment and the student’s grades at school into consideration we will be able to determine how many hours tuition a week the student will require to pass and/or excel.

 

When tuition starts we will then assist the student in his current school work as well as cover sections requiring attention as highlighted by the assessment. Whenever tests or exams are being written we will also assist the student in preparation for those, especially end of year exams. After the student has written an exam/test and gets the results back we will cover it with the student again to make sure all mistakes are understood and rectified.

 

Homework will be assigned after every lesson. This will allow us to determine if the work we covered during the lesson was understood and can be applied when the student is not with the tutor. Students will also be assigned to a tutor for the duration of the year, this allows the student and tutor to build a relationship making it easier to track each students’ progress. Students and Tutors are also matched based on their personalities as we would like each student to feel comfortable with their tutor, benefit from their lessons but also have fun during their lessons in order to instil an enjoyment for the subjects they receive tuition in. Each tutor keeps a detailed progress report on the work covered during lessons and these progress reports will be emailed to the students’ parent/guardian during the following month.

 Lessons are booked by corresponding the students’ availability with our tutoring slots. Students will then be permanently assigned slots which must be attended weekly.
